ASSESSING OUR TALENT NEEDS

In 2016, AgriNovus commissioned a comprehensive talent and workforce study.  It was the first time that Indiana’s agbioscience jobs were counted – all 75,000 of them!   Some of our most acclaimed colleges and universities – Purdue University, Ivy Tech Community College, Vincennes University, Huntington University, Indiana State University and Ancilla College – ensure sound training and preparation in numerous food and agriculture disciplines.

But, the agbioscience industry today and into the future needs professionals with even broader training that integrates agricultural sciences with other STEM disciplines as well as enhanced business acumen – think engineering, computer science, informatics, finance, global studies, communications, biology, chemistry and other diverse subjects.

CRAFTING A PLAN – DO WHAT MATTERS

To be a 21st century agbioscience leader, Indiana must have a 21st century agbioscience workforce equipped to develop and apply cutting-edge innovation.  We need a workforce that is applications-focused, experiential-based, entrepreneurial, well-rounded, engaged and appropriately skilled.

The AgriNovus Do What Matters talent plan aims to incorporate the agbiosciences across the full talent pipeline – from K–12, to colleges and universities and on through continued professional development.

This multi-dimensional plan engages students, educators, professionals and industry leadership to address the current and future talent needs of Indiana’s agbioscience community.
